Galdsaxe municipality is the home to many companies. Below are case stories that describe what attracted two international companies to the municipality.

 CMC Biopharmaceuticals A/S
Favourable location for international employees

CMC Biopharmaceuticals is a contract-manufacturing organisation focused on biologics, development and manufacture. The company is Danish but fundamentally international and has a global market. Therefore employees from abroad are critical:

"We're very eager to attract international employees. Many of our employees are Swedish, and we've people from the US and the UK, as well as from a number of other countries. We're able to attract experts from abroad," says Chief Executive Officer Mads Laustsen.

One of the main reasons for this is the advantageous infrastructure. Copenhagen Airport, with its multiple international destinations, is not far away. Another reason is the short distance from the company's premises in Gladsaxe to Copenhagen city centre with its many cultural attractions and international schools.

"We're also pleased with our location because we're very close to major Danish universities - for instance the Technical University of Denmark, which has supplied a great many of our employees. In addition, the area is a nice place to live in," adds Mads Laustsen.

Another reason for CMC Biopharmaceuticals to be pleased with its specific location is the way they have been welcomed by Gladsaxe Municipality. "It is highly significant that the municipality appreciates genetic engineering. They've been positive towards us from the beginning and they've been responsive in terms of future opportunities. They are interested in modern, knowledge-based and non-polluting industry, and they are open-minded about what is needed for us to run a thriving business," says Mads Laustsen.

CMC Biopharmaceuticals, founded in 2001, located to Søborg, Gladsaxe in early 2004. It is the only company of its kind in Denmark, where it employs 160 people, of which 10% are foreign nationals. The company has business development offices in both the UK and the USA.

Cisco Denmark
Infrastructure and convergent networks for data, voice and video

"Cisco Denmark's location in Gladsaxe is advantageous to our company because many of our partners are within a ten-minute driving distance. This is important to us," says Marcom Manager Dorthe Dahlin Irvold.

The company supplies networks to the private and public sector and to service providers that can transfer data, voice and video based on IP technology. Cisco is headquartered in California and the company has been represented in Denmark since 1994 when it became an independent, public limited company. Cisco employs more than 34,000 people worldwide. The 100-strong staff based in Gladsaxe are responsible for sales to the Danish market. The call centre, which is also based in Gladsaxe, is staffed by an international team.

"About five years ago we moved to Gladsaxe because we were - and still are - expanding rapidly, which meant that we needed a lot more space. We're still satisfied with our location, although we're not here because our employees live locally. As long as our office is easily accessible, it isn't of great importance where our employees may live as our technology makes it possible to work from home now and then. Many of our employees live in Jutland, for instance," adds Dorthe Dahlin Irvold.

It is an advantage to Cisco that they are so close to Copenhagen Airport and to the motorway. Although most of their employees in the office are Danes, they do have many people visiting them from abroad for meetings etc. And there are various nationalities among the call centre staff.

Cisco Systems Inc. had a turnover of USD 18.9 billion in 2001/2002 and a surplus of USD 4.4 billion the same year.
