Society and living:
The winner project for the radical renewal of Købmagergade, Kultorvet and Hauser Plads in Copenhagen has been selected. The renewal is expected to be finished in 2012.
After many years of attempts Copenhagen City is ready with a comprehensive plan for the renovation of the run-down Købmagergade as well as Kultorvet and Hauser Plads, writes Berlingske Tidende.
The project, which is designed in collaboration with Danish and Dutch landscape architects covers a new correlated granite surfacing in three light and dark colours, a combined fountain and stage for performances at Kultorvet, new playground at Hauser Plads and a joint square around Trinitatis Kirke and Rundetårn.
“If there is anything Copenhagen has needed for years it is to change and renew Købmagergade, Hauser Plads and Kultorvet. A doing-over has been wanted for a long time and now it will happen. The two squares are to be thought innovatively so that the Copenhageners and the visitors to the city will like it there, and Købmagergade is to have a new surfacing, everything of highest quality," says Mayor (Technical and Environmental Administration) Klaus Bondam (R).
According to the schedule the renovation will start in the beginning of 2010 and is estimated to last 2 years.
The expenses are approximately approx. 15 mio. euro and the project will be financed by the Copenhagen Authorities and Knud Højgaards Fund. However, DKK 30 million is still missing before the economy is in place.
