The two large sports shop chains Sportmaster and Intersport with altogether 200 shops are about to have the same owner.

The Icelandic capital fund Arev together with the investment bank Straumur has submitted a quotation to Sportmaster which has been looking for a buyer for months, writes Børsen Business Daily.

The owners of the 110 Sportmaster shops will have one week to contemplate the offer and in the affirmative a new large-scale player will enter the Danish retail trade’s sports arena.

Close purchase collaboration is obvious and an actual merger of Sportmaster/Intersport is very probable. In spite of the large number of shops it is estimated that a merger will create no problems with regards to the Danish competition authorities.
