CLEANTECH
Through the last 20 years, Denmark has built up a unique set of cleantech competences which has lead to a global front position within the cleantech sector today.The international recognition has especially been concentrated on the successful wind industry. Today, however, Danish companies and knowledge institutions also excel in a number of other cleantech areas such as solar power, water treatment, biofuels, fuel cells, enzymes, sustainable buildings and energy efficiency.
Strongholds
Restrictive environmental laws and heavy public investment in green technologies has spurred the development of innovative companies and research institutions. Today, Denmark has around 420 companies and 46 knowledge institutions working within cleantech.
Furthermore, the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), which is one of the leading cleantech universities in the world, and almost half of Denmark’s cleantech companies are located in the Copenhagen and Zealand Region.
